Build Your Career - The 5 Most Important Factors

The most important thing to remember here is... You have a job!  If you don't, then this article will help you find a job, keep it, and make yourself invaluable.

The 5 Most Important Traits -

  1. 1. Integrity
  2. 2. Persistence
  3. 3. Team Player
  4. 4. Sincerity
  5. 5. Compassion

Being a manager, those are the qualities I look for when I interview a person. Of course there are other factors in making the final selection, but they are based on the particular job role or function within the department. Let's break them down and elaborate a little more.

Integrity - Questions I ask on an interview are aimed at whether or not the applicant has integrity. This means that the person must convince me that what they say they are going to do, they follow through and keep their word. I'll ask specific questions on how they handled certain events and probe deeper or even change the topic if I'm not getting my question of "integrity" answered.

Persistance - The person must show they are able to finish a job or task.  If they can't show perseverance, then it means they need alot of "hand holding".

Team Player -  The ideal candidate must show proof of being a team player.  in our field, there's no such thing as me me me.  Everyone works together to benefit the customer and the team.

Sincerity -  A person must be honest and sincere.  Arrogance does not mix well with customer service and peopleneed to feel that we are genuine.

Compassion -  This plays a major role in customer support.  Being attentive to someone's needsis imperative.  Sometimes you need to give a little and sometimes you need to give alot.  Either way, it's what earns the respect of the people you help.

Although these are the primary traits I look for in a person, it may not hold true for different types of positions.  But all in all, you can't go wrong if you truly have these traits.  Being real is what earns respect.

Best Regards,

Russ
